Aurum & Stone estate

Est. 1923

A Century of Highland Hospitality

Our story

Built on stone. Built to last.

In 1923, the Aurum family commissioned a highland retreat on the banks of Loch Glen — a place of refuge from the din of the modern world, built from local slate and sandstone that had been quarried from the same hill for generations. The estate opened its doors to guests in 1947 and has remained in careful stewardship ever since.

Through decades of change, one thing has remained constant: the belief that true luxury is not found in excess, but in the quality of quiet — in a fire burning without being asked, in a meal that tastes of the place you are in, in a guide who knows every hidden corrie on the hill.

Today, Aurum & Stone holds its original form while embracing the best of contemporary craft. The original stone walls remain. The cast-iron fireplaces still burn. And the mist still rolls in from the west before breakfast, filling the glen with the particular silence that keeps guests returning year after year.
